Key Findings
The Good
- There is a good reach of activity across the county reaching good levels of CYP. There is heavy concentration of activity in the Shrewsbury area.
- There is good art form coverage within the county.
- There is a willingness within the consortium to work together to:
- advocate for the CYP work that is being delivered,
- create and strengthen partnerships
- consider new ways of working and to generate new investment and markets.
- consider best practice
- Cleobury Mortimer has been identified as a cold spot with a high concentration of CYP and low levels of activity.
- There are few opportunities to view/attend dance, visual arts and literature activity.
- Low levels of Arts Award opportunities in the county
- Relationships with schools can be developed amongst the majority of consortium organisations. 9% of schools have no cultural activity engagement with external providers. 35% of schools have low levels of engagement, only undertaking one form of engagement with an external provider.
- There are limited opportunities for CYP to be involved in the development and design of CYP activity.
- There are limited opportunities for CYP to access cultural apprenticeships, work experience and skills based learning.
- There are funding and capacity threats to the delivery of CYP activity, particularly from Shropshire Council’s funding cuts and the reduction of Arts Council England funding.
